Why a Caterham 7 ? Quality. While many lower quality manufacturers position themselves in the market with a cheaper initial price, customers should be aware that Caterhams do not suffer from the poor residuals of most kit cars. Often Caterham ownership is more cost effective than some of the “cheaper” options. As the saying goes: Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.
...................................................................................................................................................... What does the SV offer over the standard 7? 110mm more width and 80mm more length translates to a cockpit which is more accommodating to larger and taller people. Over the standard model, there is space for a larger radiator which we believe necessary in our climate; larger fuel tank, larger boot and a wider suspension track. It’s a more practical 7 and more comfortable.
...................................................................................................................................................... What form can I buy a Caterham in?
There are 3 ways to buy a new Caterham in South Africa
The most popular way to buy a Caterham is as a complete knock-down kit, or ‘CKD’ for self-assembly. You will be supplied with a kit of all-new parts to build your car including chassis and engine. No donor car or recycled parts are required, unlike most ‘kit cars’. All you need to supply to get running are tools, time and fuel! Alternatively, a cost effective option for customers who require a completely assembled vehicle, we offer this service and will build your CKD for you for an additional sum on top of the kit price.
Caterham can factory build your car in the UK for an additional sum on top of the kit price. This is a complete turnkey solution applicable to all CSR models, plus 1 or 2 of the other high performance models.
Starter Kits allow you to purchase a Caterham kit in modules, allowing you to spread the cost and build the car to your own unique specification. The basic starter kit includes the chassis, and you are then free to choose different modules as and when required. It is also ideal if you intend fitting your own choice of engine. The starter kit chassis comes with complete pedal box assembly, fuel tank and fuel lines, brake lines and fitted aluminium cladding all ready fitted.
...................................................................................................................................................... Is it difficult and how long will it take to build my 7? Building a 7 from CKD form is straight-forward, with no special skills required and only a basic mechanical knowledge. 70 – 90 man hours is typical. Safety items such as seatbelt mounts brake lines are factory installed.
...................................................................................................................................................... Are Caterhams safe? The Caterham Seven has been developed with a wealth of experience from 20 years of Caterham Motorsport. All cars are fitted with aluminium honeycomb side impact protection, roll over protection and come with EU approved passive restraint seatbelts which help the car maintain its excellent record. The agility and braking ability of the car also enable it to avoid dangerous situations better than a larger, heavier car. |
